The book advance is a way to use part of your packaged financial aid in advance to purchase books and supplies through the JCCC Bookstore. It is not additional financial aid, unless you have been granted a specific book scholarship.
Reserve Books with Your Student ID
With a book advance or book scholarship, you can use your student ID card info to reserve your books online by selecting “JCCC Campus Card”! No student ID for reservation? Find your “active card” number in your MyID Card link in MyJCCC. Click on the Card Services tab to find it.
JCCC Book Scholarships
A JCCC Book Scholarship, different from a book advance, granted through JCCC is loaded on the JCCC ID card to be used at the JCCC Bookstore only. Students offered book scholarship funds will be notified by email to their student email account. Available book scholarship funds can be viewed through the MyID Card link in MyJCCC. This scholarship is removed at the end of the semester.
If received, be sure to use ALL your available book scholarship funds since any unspent book scholarship funds are not refunded to the student.
Summer 2024 Book Advance Dates
April 29: Summer books available in-store and online
Pre-ordered books for financial aid students will be shipped after book advances are loaded on May 22.

May 22 through June 13 – Summer book advances available for use through the JCCC Bookstore
If you have been packaged summer aid and receive a summer book advance, an email will be sent to your JCCC email account letting you know when it has been loaded.
Once the book advance is loaded on your JCCC ID card, you can check the balance by logging into your MyJCCC and selecting the MyID Card link.
The maximum book advance is $1,500 and the minimum is $50, with the exception of certain degree majors. If your books cost more than your book advance, you will need to pay the remaining difference before you can obtain your books.
June 13 (Thursday) - Last day to use book advances
They will expire on your account at the end of the day and can no longer be used to purchase books.
June 21 - Summer Refunds begin
If you chose not to use the book advance or have used only a portion of it, the difference plus any remaining financial aid (financial aid minus tuition and fees) will be refunded to you.
If you have late start classes or if you are a single semester loan borrower, your refund could be delayed. All summer loans will be disbursed in two equal disbursements, one at the beginning of the semester, at the first applicable disbursement, and the other at the midpoint (refunds start July 5).
July 26 – Be sure to return your Summer book rentals by this due date!
